Physical Literacy Defined
Although there are many definitions that encompass Physical Literacy, we prefer to use the following definition taken from Margaret Whitehead’s book, Physical Literacy: Throughout the Lifecourse:
Physical Literacy can be described as the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding to maintain physical activity throughout the life course.
- Ensure Fundamental Movement Skills are offered in your programming
- Help to integrate physical literacy into your programs and activities
- Help to progress participants through skill development
- Provide a framework to structure games and physical activity opportunities
